mockingjay braid

About a year back, I was brainstorming for gift ideas as it was about 2 months before a friend's birthday. Personally, I like making things for people, be it baking cakes or writing cards and doing up some craft. I feel that handmade things are always more meaningful gifts :-)

As my friend was a huge fan of The Hunger Games and liked the Mockingjay symbol, I decided to search online for bracelet patterns related to The Hunger Games or Mockingjay emblem, and came across the pattern below:

This braid pattern required a total number of 38 strings and 36 rows had to be braided just for 1 emblem to be out. I knew that attempting to make this braid would cost me ALL of my time and a whole lot of patience, but I wanted to give myself a challenge, and anyway I had to give my friend a gift, so I tried it. I FINALLY finished it after a month aaaaand.............it turned out like this:

TA DAH ٩(^ᴗ^)۶
This was probably the hardest and the most time consuming braid I have ever completed but I was really happy that it turned out the way I expected it to be!

(a bit of background info) The Mockingjay emblem came from The Hunger Games, which is a science fiction novel written by Suzanne Collins in 2008. The novel was also adapted into a film in March 2012. The Hunger Games trilogy consists of 2 other books, which are Catching Fire (2009) and Mockingjay (2010).

finishing an emblem already took me 1 and a half weeks, I was literally jumping for joy when I finished the whole thing haahaha

I used a masking tape to secure the strings together before starting on the braid, and this kept the strings in place and also ensured a consistency in the width of the braid :-)

If you would like to attempt to make this, you can find the bracelet pattern here. You will need a lot of patience, will power, and hard work, but its always nice to give yourself a little challenge now and then :-) till next time!
